Top 50 Worst Video Game Voices (Dean’s Face Acting)

BOOM SHAKALAKALAKALAKA

A few weeks back, the new NBA Jam (for Wii) held a callout for basketball fans to submit their best one-liners to join the ranks of classic Jam phrases like

Is it the shoes?, From doooown town and He’s on fire. Well, the competition was only open to US Residents but they have narrowed over 3000 entries down to the top 64 and anyone can go listen and vote for their favourites now on their Facebook Page.
My cousin Ivan and I are massive NBA heads and have played b-ball games starting from Bulls VS Blazers ‘92 to NBA2K10 and everything in between. Most of our trash talk over the years is gibberish, puns (great drunk from Boozer) or a series of swears punctuated by the N-word. The 64 final entries are much more wittier and racially appropriate than my cousin’s and my colour commentary and with the original voice of NBA Jam, Tim Kitzrow, providing audio readings for all 64 lines, it’s equal parts hilarity and nostalgia.

Google Plans the Release of Chrome Game Store
At the company’s annual I/O conference, held earlier this week in San Francisco, Google unveiled plans to create an app store within its Chrome browser. It will feature video games among other applications such as productivity apps and magazines. They stated that unlike Apple’s famed store, they would allow applications to run outside the browser and will also be available on their upcoming Chrome operating system for netbooks.

Nostalgia: Counter-strike: Source

In Nostalgia, we look at games used to play the hell out of in the past, and reflect on them as games, and their effect on us. Sort of like Memoir’s of a Gamer, with no correlations to geishas.

The game I have easily put the most hours into is Counter-Strike: Source. Just to give you a rough guideline of how much emphasis I am putting into easily, according to my Xfire account (which I no longer use), I have clocked in 2,069 hours into this fucking game. 2,069. That’s an accumulated 86 days of my life that is entirely Counter-Strike. And that’s only back when I used Xfire, I played for about another year’s worth without Xfire recording hours. To put that in perspective, my 2nd most hours is probably Call of Duty 4 at 290 hours, and I played that quite a lot. I was a CSS junkie, I spent most of my non-schooling and sleeping hours playing this game, and I got really good. Like 2nd best clan in GameArena (the main Australian online league) good. And this article isn’t to brag, I’m just painting a picture as to how much I used to play this game. I don’t know if it’s the addictiveness of Counter-Strike as a game, or if it’s the fact that when you get good at something you gain more enjoyment out of it, but I spent most of my waking hours playing. Upcoming Indie Games: Limbo

Denmark-based Independent game developers and one’s to watch PLAYDEAD are soon to release their debut title ‘Limbo’: a black and white puzzle-platforming adventure game that looks incredible. The Annual International Games Festival, previous awarder of breakthrough indie games including Braid, World of Goo and Audiosurf,   has nominated Limbo for awards in both the Art and Technical Excellence categories. Could it be this years Braid?

The game is set to arrive on consoles around the world this year, with an exclusive summer launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

It’s always good to see indie developers getting console success, because you can tell that they really treat their games like a work of art and this really gets them noticed and rewarded. More info at http://www.limbogame.org and http://www.playdeadgames.com

Killzone 3d?
Details revealed in the latest issue of Gamepro magazine seem to officially announce Killzone 3 for the Playstation 3 and provide the first details on the game. Most interestingly, the magazine suggests that the game will be fully playable in 3D. Though you will require a 3D-capable TV and 3D glasses, the mode promises to create a “game-changing” experience. Fans that aren’t interested should know that the mode is optional but it is definitely expected, as they’ve recently released the 3D firmware update to the PS3 and Killzone is one of Sony’s flagship series. 5 Favourite Games. EVER.
By Colin Fong
Hey Ninjaropers, this is my first full post here on TNR so what better way to start things off then to follow in Todd’s footsteps and regale in a bit of my personal history with videogames. If you were to walk with me down my gaming memory lane, the chronology would read 1991-1997, Sega (Game Gear, Megadrive); 1997-2010, Nintendo (N64, Gamecube, DS); and most recently, April 2010-currently, Sony (PS3). That timeline may shed light on these choices:

Games We Love: Picross 3D Picross 3D

The Ninja Rope is a gaming blog. We talk about interesting things in the gaming community. But which games interest us? In this new column, Games We Love, we’ll be talking about the games that inspired us to run a blog dedicated to gaming. They could be new games, old games, popular games or obscure games. The point is that we like them, and so should you.
The first title in this series is a relatively new one, Picross 3D. The spiritual successor to the 2007 puzzle game Picross DS, Picross 3D takes the original’s formula and adds another dimension to create a completely different game. The premise is the same: using clues scattered around a blank canvas, reveal the image hidden inside. Where this game differs from the original is the execution of this objective. Instead of a blank canvas, you have a blank prism. Rather than trying to find which blocks are part of the hidden image, you must find which blocks to remove. A simple difference but an important one which turns the gameplay on it’s head…

5 Core Final Fantasy Features that Final Fantasy XIII is Missing
As a Final Fantasy nut, a numbered Final Fantasy game of this console generation was obviously huge news. Final Fantasy XIII (SquareEnix, 2010) was enormously anticipated for me and I’m sure a myriad of other gamers. I’d go as far as saying it was my most anticipated game for the PS3, and I even got it at 12:10AM at a midnight launch (Australia also received the game before most countries including the US, funnily enough).  I played through the entire story in about a week, and I actually really enjoyed it, and as a game, it really was very good. There are a few key things however, that Square decided to do differently this time around, that they really really didn’t have to. I mean, there’s no better use for the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.  Things that are staples of the Final Fantasy series, things that I love so much about the series, that they blindly changed that greatly hurt what could have been another Final Fantasy classic. Here are those 5 things, neatly laid out for you.

Ape Escape Coming to PS3, Trading Analog Sticks for Motion Control

Everyone’s favourite culturally relevant monkeys are set to return to lounge rooms in 2010, with the tentatively titled Ape Escape PS3.  And from the looks of the first promotional image, there are going to be a lot of monkeys to catch.
This latest installment in the fan favourite series will be a PlayStation Move launch title, using motion controls instead of the a
nalog sticks so integral to the monkey catching experience. According to the official Ape Escape twitter, the new game will be similar to the Japan-only Pipo Saru 2001, which removed the right analog stick control system from the game. It was also a game about stealing pants from monkeys with a vacuum cleaner so you can wash them. I don’t even know.

Red Dead Redemption to Feature Exclusive Content on PS3

In a surprising turn for one of the biggest releases of 2010, early copies of Red Dead Redemption have featured stickers advertising exclusive bonus content for the PlayStation 3. As yet there is no official comment from Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft, but it would appear that the bonus content is absent from the Xbox version of the game.
The bonus content includes Solomon’s Folly Gang Hideout and the Walton Gang Outfit. In other words, if you own a PS3 you can wear a top hat in the wild west.
